Michael is certified as a PADI Freediver Instructor Trainer, SSI-Level 3 Freediving Instructor, RAID Freediving Instructor Trainer, SSI-Instructor Trainer, Swim Teacher Trainer, Classified Open Water Instructor, and Freediving Instructor, as well as a PADI-IDC Staff Instructor, EFR Emergency Response Instructor.

Michael began his professional diving career in the German Navy. After leaving the Navy and Germany, Michael started working as a full-time scuba Instructor and managing various dive resort operations around the globe, as well as working as a freelance Instructor and Dive guide. Eventually landing in sunny San Diego where he joined Dive California, at that time a Scuba, Swim training, and retail shop first as the General Manager until he took over the wheel as owner in 2011. In the summer of 2016, he decided to close the retail store and refocus the company to offer a more personalized approach with mobile services for scuba and freedivers.

Michael has over 30 years of scuba teaching experience, as well as 20 years with physically and cognitively impaired people, specializing in working with members of the military who have been injured during combat. He also has been very much involved in the training of several San Diego Lifeguard dive teams, teaching everything from Open Water Diver, Public Safety Diving, and Freediving for Lifeguards. He is currently also offering specialized aquatic competency training for the members of special operations units of the US Navy and Marine Corps.
